ELA 30-1 focuses on elevated vocabulary, critical and analytical thinking, and thematic discussions of the human experience.  Classics from the literary canon will be the focus of study.  Students are expected to have mastered grammar, spelling, and stylistic punctuation at the onset of the course--since academic writing will be stressed; primarily, the personal response and critical-analytic essay will be further refined.  This course is quite rigorous and is designed to encourage students to explore the subtle nuances of the English language.  English 20-1 is a required prerequisite for enrolment; a minimum grade of 65% in English 20-1 is STRONGLY recommended to support the requisite skill-set.  It is also recommended that students be self-aware of strengths and gaps in their personal skill-sets.
